Service Description: Specialized services to assess physical functions and take steps to optimize physical ability

Commonly treated ailments:
  • neck, back, shoulder, knee pain
  • joint sprains
  • headaches and pains
  • fall prevention - arthritis
  • tendonitis
  • poor posture
  • muscle strains
  • sports injuries
  • physical deconditioning
  • osteoporosis

Physiotherapy treatment:
  • involves the client’s active participation
  • provides client education and advice on prevention
  • includes manual therapy (e.g. assisted stretching, mobilizations, and manual traction)
  • uses different modalities (e.g. ultrasound, TENS, IFC, EMS, heat, ice, etc.)
  • includes individualized exercises and home exercises programs
  • offers general cardio and conditioning exercises
  • provides pain control and self-management techniques
One-on-one physio sessions with the therapist run for half to one hour depending on the severity of the condition and length of treatment could be a few sessions to 6-8 weeks of treatment. The frequency of visits will be recommended by the physiotherapist based on the severity of the condition.

Priorities for service:

  • Internal referrals: clients of the centre who are referred by their providers
  • External clients referred by health care professionals outside the centre
  • Self-referral by clients who need the service

Application: 1.Internal Referrals: active clients of Rexdale CHC services who are referred by their providers. 2.External Referrals: clients referred by medical doctors and other health care professionals outside of Rexdale CHC Self-Referred Patients: clients who need the service but are not referred by any health care providers
Eligibility / Target Population: Residents of catchment area and clients of the centre * clients must demonstrate barriers to physiotherapy services elsewhere (eg no extended health insurance or other insurance to cover physiotherapy, no work-related injuries or motor vehicle accidents)
