Service Description:
|
Coordinates programs to break social isolation and increase connection of residents of Parkdale with a focus on seniors and youth Information and Referral- staff specialize in connecting community members with local organizations
- walk-ins welcome; no appointment required
Intergenerational Programs Workshops bring together seniors and youth to learn new skills together and/or get a chance to spend time with a different age group to bring new perspectives Global Roots- participants learn how to garden, cook and look after the environment; share information on nutrition and healthy recipes
- refreshments/TTC fare provided; youth can use experience for community service
- takes place at Artscape Wychwood Barns (601 Christie St)
Youth Supporting Seniors in Information and Technology (SSIT)- pairs youth and seniors with aim to build up resumes and social connection.
- youth coach and support seniors to use technologies and seniors have opportunities to increase their communications with friends and families using platforms such as What's App, FaceTime.
- pairs meet twice a week for 3 months.
- youth participants are screened for safety, receive orientation and receive certificate(s) for training and/or completion of program
Seniors Programs Active and Connected Seniors- workshops and activities bring seniors together to promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing
- past activities have included workshops on nutrition and seniors rights, arts and crafts and trips
Seniors Connected- online workshops with one-on-one follow up phone support
- past workshops include topics such as budgeting, beating the heat, falls prevention
Youth Programs Sankofa- workshops to create safe place to focus on physical and mental health, engagement with arts and care for the environment
- youth can meet like-minded people and make new frineds
- past sessions include topics such as Art Through You, Do It For Yourself, The Thread Club
Skills for Youth Success (SYS)- workshops to help youth market themselves in a digital world
- youth learn to build a professional digital image and a new media resume
- pre-employment program teaches youth networking skills and soft skills such as interacting with the public, tranferrable to many secotrs
- youth will become familiar with potential career paths and ways to build important connections in the future
