Service Description: Trained volunteer responders provide support for people struggling with overwhelming emotional distress, social marginalization and mistreatment, or having thoughts of suicide. Provides free telephone support in English and 8 languages, for the diverse population of Toronto, Peel, and the GTA through the following programs and services:

  • Helpline (English) - Daily 24 hours
    well-trained volunteer responders provide timely support to people struggling with emotional distress, social marginalization and mistreatment, or having thoughts of suicide
  • 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Helpline
    a new helpline for anyone across Canada who is thinking about suicide, or who is worried about someone they know. Call or text 9-8-8 toll-free, anytime for support in English and French
  • Multilingual Distress Lines - Support in 8 languages, Mon-Fri 10am-10pm
    trained volunteers assist people in the areas of emotional distress, relationship issues, and life changes. English service offered daily 24 hours. Service also offered in 8 other languages: Cantonese, Mandarin, Portuguese, Spanish, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu
  • Survivors of Suicide and Homicide Loss
    those who have lost someone to a suicide or homicide experience a number of short and longer term impacts including social and mental health impacts. Open conversations with trusted individuals and peers helps to process feelings of loss and isolation and provides help to navigate the journey of healing and loss

"About Us"
Distress Centres of Greater Toronto is a non-profit, charitable organization that currently has inbound and outbound support services for the GTA populace. DCOGT provides free, confidential, multilingual and non-judgmental support and referrals for people in crisis/suicidal situations, people with mental health issues, and for those individuals who are socially and psychologically isolated. All programs are supported by trained volunteers supported by professional staff.
